Programming Guide For Video-Gamers (beginner level)
http://ithare.com/programming-guide-for-video-gamers
Thanks to Dylan, his father, & Bethany from Denver for this great resource!
If you live in the Denver area, be sure to check out the amazing programs for children at G.A.T.E. Denver Children's Coalition
Free Video Game Programming Languages & Tools
Beginner (for kids):
Scratch Primarily developed for children between the ages of 8 and 16, Scratch is a free educational programming language developed by Mitch Resnick and patented by the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Teaching kids to code with Scratch is easy, as the platform provides an intuitive, easy-to-use visual block interface that eliminates the frustration of typing for young learners. Scratch is one of the most visually appealing of all the kids programming languages on the list, but the real reason it really shines is in the freedom of expression that it allows its students. The whole idea behind it was to simplify the process of creating animations, designing games, and building interactive stories, so that literally anyone could do it from the ground up. Kids feel like real game designers using Scratch, and even complete novices can create simple, completely custom games in minutes. Scratch also has a big online community with over 15 million registered users from every corner of the world. Anyone can become a member. The other great thing about the Scratch platform and its community is that you are required to store your projects and their code on the Scratch server, which allows young learners to study how more advanced users have created complex games. You can introduce your child to it with this step-by-step guide. The cards will provide your kids with a fun new way to learn to code with one of the best kids coding languages on the planet.

Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced (for kids & adults):
Our all-time favorite at IMC Lab: Unity3D
Unity3D is a powerful cross-platform 3D engine and a user friendly development environment. Easy enough for the beginner and powerful enough for the expert; Unity should interest anybody who wants to easily create 3D games, virtual reality, augmented reality and other applications for mobile, desktop, the web, popular VR/AR headsets and gaming consoles.
Check out these tutorials for beginners:

In the process, our artists' temporary interventions into public life promote the democratic use of public space as a place for free and creative expression while reaching people beyond the traditional limitations of class, age, race and education.
